Taxis are a great way to get around St. Kitts.

All official taxis have yellow license plates. Ask the driver if the fare will be in US Dollars or EC (Eastern Caribbean Dollars) There may be a 50% surcharge to get a taxi between 10 PM and 6 AM.

Matthew "Caveman" is our usual driver. He's a great taxi driver and tour guide. He'll pick you up at the airport - make arrangements through Malcolm before you leave.

Rental Car

Rental Car
Most rental agencies require drivers to be 25 years of age. You'll need a temporary St Kitts Driver's License to drive a rental car. Rental car companies should offer to help you get a license. Licenses can be obtained at the Traffic Department on Cayon Street in Basseterre for $25(USD).

Be prepared to drive on the left!

Costs are:
$40 - $75(USD) per day for cars
$70 - $90(USD) per day for a jeep or four wheel drive vehicle
- $10 - $15(USD) per day collision insurance with deductibles of approximately $950(USD)
- 5% government tax
- $400 (USD) Safety deposits may be required

Bullseye Car Rental is located on the main road as you go into town and airport from the villa. They have by far the most convenient location to our villa. Just mention to Winston, that you are staying at Halfmoon Villa and they will offer a 10% discount to your rental.

Ferry

Ferry
While you're in St. Kitts, take a ferry over to the island of Nevis.

The port charge is EC$1, approximately $0.40(USD).

Ferries between Basseterre and Charlestown take approximately 45 minutes. Ferry information line 869-466-INFO (466-4636).

Bus

Bus
Privately-owned, creatively-named buses provide a cheap ride around St. Kitts and Nevis, but don't seem to run on any set schedule.
